Position Overview:

Responsible to interpret customer manufacturing instructions and technical drawing or digital data packages to transcribe the requirements into the manufacturing plans (routing and bills of material) in accordance with customer process and quality requirements. An aerospace methods planner is essentially the bridge between engineering design and the factory floor. They should possess the ability and training to take a design on paper (or CAD) and then determine the “how to implement” — the exact sequence, tooling, materials, and processes needed to build it efficiently, safely, and to specification.These are to be achieved to ensure product safety using the most economical manufacturing method for the fabrication of aircraft/aerospace details and assemblies that adhere to customer requirements.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide estimates for quoting requirements including work flow, equipment and tooling requirements, materials and special processes which may require outside production.
  • Interact with Supervisor by communicating and receiving instruction in the transition of quoting/estimating to onboarding of new work to implement the workflow, current material needs, equipment and/or to address the manufacturing methodology/potential problems accordingly.
  • Review customer technical data package, engineering, specifications to ensure accurate and safe part manufacture in item routings.
  • Develop and maintain item numbers (manufactured, purchased and outside production), production routings and bill-of-material for the efficient manufacture of aircraft component parts to the specified configuration.
  • Create and maintain the ‘Item Masters and Item Branch’ records in JD Edwards per applicable procedures.
  • Ensure proper configuration control is defined of all component parts, outside operation, purchased materials and tooling.
  • Work collaboratively with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Technicians to implement changes, reworks and/or alternate processing requirements.
  • Provide support to Customer Representative Representatives (i.e. Contracts), Quality Assurance and applicable Production Areas in order to resolve configuration and/or technical issues and their respective implementation. 
  • Identify Tooling, Shop Drawing and First Article Inspection (FAI) requirements and update ‘lock notes’.
  • Review shop drawings for the fabrication of aircraft/aerospace details in accordance with the configuration defined by planning.
  • Participate in implementing corrective actions derived from NCR disposition, CAR action resolution and audit finding implementation requirements
  • Maintain and wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the area you will be in or the operation or task you are about to conduct.   Maintain a clear-shaven face at all times during any activity regarding the use of a respirator.
  • Become familiar with applicable safety data sheets (SDS), safe work procedures and/or regulations affecting the work and/or this workplace.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations and the use safety equipment will be the highest priority for you and your co-workers.

What You Will Bring:

  • Completion of High School (Grade 12) and;
  • Completion of a 2-yr Manufacturing Engineering Technologist Diploma;
  • Completion of an aircraft blueprint/GD&T course or demonstrated ability in interpreting aircraft blueprints/CATIA models and understanding of GD&T;
  • Good knowledge and ability to use MS Office, specifically Excel (pivot tables) and ERP systems;
  • Excellent reading interpretation and comprehension across multi-level specification requirements;
  • Strong analytical, visual concepts and math skills required;
  • Strong organizational skills for record keeping and historical traceability and audit retrieval;
  • Must complete a criminal check to be in this position to be eligible to access customer technical data websites;
  • Must be eligible to meet the requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and the Canadian Security Clearances;
  • Must be able to work co-operatively with others and follow directives precisely;
  • Knowledge of processes, products and equipment will be considered an asset;
  • Completion of Global Harmonized System (WHMIS) course;
  • Must meet physical requirements of the position including but not limited to: walking, static standing and leg/foot movement for extended periods, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting/trunk rotation, weight bearing / lifting, carrying, pushing & pulling heavy objects; hand/wrist gripping, grasping, pinching, vibration depend on tasks/tools, neck & back flexion;
