Production Supervisor

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Production Supervisor is responsible for being a leadership resource to team members (workers); providing knowledge, experience, motivation, support and advice. The Supervisor is responsible for knowing proper procedures for workers to follow and ensuring that they comply in order to meet departmental and organization performance objectives.

What You Will Do:

  • Motivate, manage and lead a group of employees by communicating and providing the information necessary to meet personal, departmental and organization performance goals and objectives; 
  • Liaise with all departments, work collaboratively to identify and resolve problems and/or supervise teams that work in operations and product development;
  • Plan, organize and recommend strategies to ensure that the product is developed successfully, in accordance with all specification;
  • Demonstrate a high sense of urgency and meet commitments in a timely manner and escalate issues by establishing clear directions, set stretch targets and plan work in an organized manner;
  • Thoroughly investigate the root cause of defects and/or process failures, provide solutions and implement lasting corrective actions; 
  • Identify potential problems or failures of existing or new work tasks prior to the production stage by ensuring a job hazard analysis/ risk assessment are performed and safe working procedures (SWP) and/or work instructions are developed;
  • Coach and monitor to ensure adherence to process and procedure, JIT/Lean principles and Continuous Improvement;
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback on performance and quality, educating and correcting as necessary;
  • Assist in the development of in-house training, and seek out external training opportunities to improve the capabilities of the workforce while improving engagement;
  • Take a leadership role in promoting, maintaining and demonstrating a personal commitment to IMP's Occupational, Health, Safety & Environmental practices, objectives and full compliance with all Nova Scotia Provincial Health and Safety Legislation. 

What You Will Bring:

  • Completion of High School (Grade 12), equivalent experience and/or training;
  • Five (5) years Supervisory Experience in Manufacturing Environment or experience in a manufacturing leadership role;
  • Strong team orientation with leadership abilities and ability to multitask and prioritize;
  • Ability to use analytical and problem-solving skills to determine production resource planning and implement corrective actions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Must have ERP computer experience and excellent knowledge of Excel;
  • Knowledge of JIT/Lean Production systems and the ability to implement actions plans in support of these processes;
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, products, equipment and the ability to research alternate or replacement products when required in accordance with the allowed procedures; 
  • Ability to read blueprint, 3D models and interpret engineering specification and documentation;
  • Completion of, or ability to complete, Global Harmonized System (WHMIS) course;
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program.
