We believe that regardless of where you work at IMP Aerospace & Defence, you are a part of our ever-growing team. IMP is able to achieve success through this teamwork mindset. That is why at IMP, you are not defined by your role.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical accountant who enjoys digging into data, understanding how operations drive results, and explaining why variances occur—not just reporting them.
Based in our Halifax office, this role will remotely support two manufacturing locations in Hammonds Plains and Amherst, with occasional on-site visits to build understanding of operations and processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move beyond traditional accounting into operational finance, with a focus on work-in-progress (WIP), costing, and variance analysis.
A professional designation is not required. We are focused on experience, mindset, and analytical ability.
What You Will Do:
- Own and maintain WIP continuity and month-end reconciliation
- Support month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Investigate and explain production and cost variances
- Support two manufacturing operations by analyzing cost drivers and operational activity
- Reconcile and analyze data across ERP systems, Excel, and operational inputs
- Identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Work closely with plant personnel and operations teams to understand results
- Travel periodically to both locations (Hammonds Plains and Amherst) to support understanding and continuous improvement
- Recommend and implement improvements to processes, tracking, and reporting
What You Will Bring:
- 3–7+ years in accounting, finance, or a related role
- Strong experience with reconciliations, analysis, and financial data
- Exposure to any of the following is an asset:
- WIP or project accounting
- Inventory or job costing
- Manufacturing or construction environments
- Variance analysis
- Strong Excel skills (ability to analyze and manipulate data is essential)
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle) is an asset
- Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership
- Naturally curious—wants to understand why results occur
- Comfortable working with large, imperfect, or complex data sets
- Willing to engage with operations and challenge assumptions
- Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
What We Will Do For You:
- All of IMP's benefits become effective on your first day of work, regardless of your position.
- We offer a comprehensive Benefits Package, including RSP Program, Holiday Incentive program (3 additional days off over Christmas), Tuition Reimbursement Program, Long Service Awards, Volunteer Grant Program, Scholarship Program, and more!
