Position Overview:

Cormorant Mid-Life Upgrade (CMLU) Transition refers to the Program to enable efficient integration of the upgraded AW101-615 rotorcraft into Canadian Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. This new Engineering Supervisor position is responsible to the CH149 Canadian SAR Helicopter (CSH) Engineering Manager for various delegated areas of Acceptable Technical Organization (ATO) and Engineering Department management activities including direct supervision of CMLU transition engineers and other assigned personnel. Areas of responsibility include conduct and coordination of assigned engineering support activities associated with CMLU Transition, activities arising from the various CMLU Transition Working Groups and where tasked engineering project management activities associated with the Government Supplied Material (GSM) modification program.

What You Will Do:

Shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to assigned direct reports including engineers, technologists and Life Cycle Specialists (LCSs).
  • Assist in the management of the CSH Engineering group in areas such as employee performance appraisals, department organization, and recruitment and hiring activities.
  • Support CMLU Transition Working Groups (WGs) and Meetings involving IMP, the CMLU project team within the RCAF and the AW101 OEM Leonardo. WGs include those associated with CMLU Transition, Logistics Support Analysis (LSA), Technical Publications, and Aircrew Publication.
  • Conduct and coordinate activities arising from CMLU Transition WGs including Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) review, Approved Maintenance Program (AMP) review and technical review of aircraft publications.
  • Conduct and coordinate engineering activities associated with Government Supplied Material (GSM) modification program.
  • Coordinate activities associated with enabling in-country repairs of aircraft systems and components.
  • Coordinate and approve changes to the Approved Maintenance Program and Technical Publications.
  • Lead or support other technical initiatives where tasked by the CH149 Program.
  • Conduct effective communications and liaison on technical matters with representatives from the Acceptable Maintenance Organization (AMO), Main Operating Bases (MOBs), Department of National Defence (DND), aircraft and engine OEMs, Design Support Network elements and Design Authorities.
  • Review and approve Requests for Engineering Services (RES), Engineering Reports, formal Technical Memoranda, Options Analyses, Work Instructions and Procedures and other engineering documents when within assigned scope.
  • Perform airworthiness functions when authorized as either a DE or DT.
  • In extraordinary circumstances and when required by operational necessity, provide weekend and after-hours support to SAR Operations.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the CH149 Engineering Manager as required.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • EDUCATION: B. Eng., or B. Sc (Eng.), or CET (Diploma in Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Civilian or Military aerospace training.
  • SPECIAL SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE:
  • - Prior technical, personnel and project management experience is an asset.
  • - Possess well rounded knowledge of aircraft systems in general and rotary wing aircraft systems and components in particular.
  • - Possess knowledge and understanding of the goals and processes involved in initial and continuing airworthiness process. Knowledge of airworthiness regulations and standards, and military modifications processes is essential. Current Design Engineer status is considered an asset.
  • - Possess clear and effective written and oral communication. Ability to manage projects and tasks.
  • TYPE AND AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE: 5 or more years in experience in an aircraft engineering environment.
  • PERSONALITY TRAITS: Effective communication and leadership skills and proven ability in managing complex technical issues in an aircraft engineering setting. Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels both within the organization and those in agencies. Must possess good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required. Must possess an ability to logically assimilate information and identify related causal factors
