Position Overview:

Responsible to the CH149 Engineering Manager for delegated areas of supervisory, leadership and technical activities including the direct supervision of CH149 Mechanical Systems Group (including propulsion, transmissions, hoists and dynamic components) within CH149 Engineering.  The position will review and approve engineering data within their engineering and airworthiness approval authority. The position will manage workflow, liaise with the Main Operating Bases and other stakeholders to ensure optimal technical outcomes.

What You Will Do:

  • Supervise the team assigned to you in assigning, outlining requirements, providing guidance and monitoring the technical work for these individuals;
  • Prepare and/or review and approve engineering data and documents within assigned scope of authority. May include but not limited to Requests to Engineering Services (RES), Engineering Reports, Technical Memorandums, Overhaul Technical Instructions, Flight Permits, Internal Procedures and Work Instructions;
  • Provide management of section workflow by coordinating the activities of the group with the Main Operating Bases (MOB) ensuring priorities and deadlines are aligned. Manage aspects of the RES process with other departments, branches of the company, and R&O Subcontractors, to ensure their completion on time and to the appropriate technical standard;
  • Prepare and/or review airworthiness impact assessments (AWIA) and Record and Airworthiness Risk Management (RARM) and support the assessment of airworthiness risk across the Program;
  • Conduct effective communications and liaison on technical matters with representatives from MOBs, Department of National Defence, Original Equipment Manufacturers, Design Support Network and Design Authorities;
  • Lead or support technical initiatives where tasked by the Program;
  • Support transition to the CMLU fleet by reviewing Mechanical System maintenance program documentation;
  • Provide support to the Configuration Management and Data Management activities of the department;
  • Perform airworthiness functions when authorized as a Design Engineer (DE);
  • Perform supervisory or managerial function where authorized;
  • Inform the SDE of any required changes in support arrangements that will impact the scope and depth of technical airworthiness assigned to the CH149 Acceptable Technical Organization;
  • Support the management of the CH149 Engineering team by assisting with performance appraisals, organizational planning, LCS responsibilities, job descriptions, employee evaluations, and hiring as assigned.
  • In extraordinary circumstances and when required by operational necessity, provide weekend and after-hours support to SAR Ops. 
  • Assume the responsibilities of the CH149 Engineering Manager as required;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

  • B. Eng. Or B. Sc (Eng.), or CET (Diploma in Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Civilian or Military aerospace training.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems, with a focus on rotary-wing platforms. Familiarity with mechanical systems and components is preferred. Experience in areas such as propulsion, hydraulics, transmissions, hoists, or dynamic components would be considered an asset.
  • Understanding of airworthiness principles and processes, including initial and continuing airworthiness. Familiarity with applicable regulations, standards, and modification processes is preferred.
  •  Design engineering experience is an asset. Ability to obtain approval for major design changes and demonstrate compliance with airworthiness requirements is highly valued.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage projects and tasks effectively. Previous technical or team leadership experience is considered an asset.
  • 3.5 or more years of experience in an aircraft engineering environment.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills and proven ability in managing complex technical issues in an aircraft engineering setting.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with people at all levels both within the organization and those in agencies.
  • Must possess good self-discipline with an ability to work independently when required.
  • Must possess an ability to logically assimilate information and identify related casual factors
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.
