Position Overview:

The Mechanical-Structural Engineer performs important and rewarding engineering tasks in support of fixed wing or rotary wing mechanical systems design, Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs (ASIP) and conducting stress analysis in support of aircraft operations for several military and commercial customers.

What You Will Do:

Duties can include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs (ASIP) including conducting data analysis;
  • Participating or leading aircraft modification design projects;
  • Participating or leading aircraft test projects;
  • Preparing software/database requirements, user instructions and testing documentation and Perform software testing according to prepared test scripts;
  • Designing and substantiating non-standard metallic and composite repairs;
  • Designing aircraft structural modifications;
  • Designing mechanical system modifications;
  • Performing structural analyses of repairs and modifications to aircraft structures;
  • Conducting durability and damage tolerance analyses;
  • Preparing or reviewing formal reports and other engineering deliverables;
  • Coordinating or leading engineering projects;
  • Mentoring less experienced engineers; and
  • Other duties as tasked/required.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelors, Master’s or Ph.D. in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Must be eligible for registration as a P.Eng.
  • Ability to work both in independently and in a team environment. 
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian government security clearances.

Having experience in one or more of the following knowledge areas will be considered an advantage:

  • Knowledge of the MS Office and MS Windows environments.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Experience with military or commercial aircraft or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of aircraft structures. 
  • Familiar with engineering drawings, preferably aircraft.
  • Drafting experience in AutoCAD, CATIA or other drafting software.
  • Experience in classical stress analysis.
  • Knowledge of finite element modelling and analysis including the use of NASTRAN and PATRAN or other finite element modelling software.
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis and damage tolerance analyses.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods.
  • Strain gauges and/or vibration monitoring equipment and systems.
  • Collection, reduction, analysis and trending of engineering data.
  • On-aircraft testing.
  • Creation and management of databases.
  • Knowledge of civil or military airworthiness and certification.
