Position Overview:

To plan, organize and direct the activities of assigned personnel to meet safety, productivity, schedule, quality and administrative objectives and standards of the department. To ensure these activities are performed in accordance with the approved applicable standard plant procedures (SPPs) and with current technical data.

 The Production Supervisor will report to Electronic Systems in Hammonds Plains.

What You Will Do:

  • Supervise all cable and wire harness manufacturing activities, including wire cutting, stripping and marking, crimping, soldering, connector and backshell assembly, shielding and braiding, potting and electrical testing, to ensure work is completed safely, to required quality standards, and within productivity objectives and schedule
  • Plan, prioritize and assign work orders and personnel based on the production schedule, material availability and labour capacity, adjusting priorities as required to meet customer delivery commitments
  • Ensure work is performed to the current revision of drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications and work instructions, and that any changes, rework or supplemental work are recorded and initiated correctly
  • Ensure workmanship meets IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Class 3), IPC J-STD-001 and customer-specific requirements (e.g., NASA-STD-8739.4), and that assemblers hold current certifications for the work they perform
  • Ensure work order travelers, process records and labour transactions are completed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Review daily clocking and productivity reports for accuracy and initiate action to correct errors
  • Monitor work-in-progress, shortages and bottlenecks, and work with Planning, Purchasing and Stores to resolve material and kitting issues
  • Ensure cleanroom and controlled-environment protocols, FOD prevention and a high standard of housekeeping, safety and workplace hygiene are achieved and sustained 
  • Ensure supervisory obligations of the AS9100 Quality System are met, including reporting non-conformances, containment, root cause analysis and corrective action; support MRB,  customer source inspections and MIPs
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality to resolve technical issues and drawing discrepancies, and to improve processes, methods and cycle times
  • Maintain a high standard of discipline and conduct within the workplace, managing attendance, performance and employee relations in accordance with the collective agreement and company policy
  • Maintain and review department employment and training records, including the skills matrix and workmanship certifications 
  • Supervise overtime and off-shift crews
  • Support Continuous Improvement, Lean and 5S activities in the area
  • Stand in for the Production Manager and provide status and production briefing response at program meetings when required 
  • Other duties as required

What You Will Bring:

  • A minimum of six years  experience in cable and wire harness or electrical/electronic assembly manufacturing (aerospace, defence or space preferred), including a minimum of three years in a supervisory role, or a suitable combination of education, training, civil/military experience and record of achievement
  • Current or previous IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification is strongly preferred; IPC J-STD-001 and/or NASA workmanship certification is an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of harness fabrication processes, including wire preparation, crimp and solder terminations, connector and backshell assembly, shielding and electrical testing
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, connector pinouts, Bills of Material, specifications, Work Orders (WOs) and work instructions
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality system requirements, including non-conformance reporting, root cause and corrective action, and First Article Inspection (AS9102)
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems, production scheduling and capacity planning
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills are a must, including proficiency with the MS Office suite (Excel in particular)
  •  Must be able to manage multiple priorities and support multiple tasks on a consistent basis
  • Must have the ability to organize, schedule and plan daily activities while supporting staff with technical knowledge
  • Knowledge of Labour Relations and Union environments
  • Must be flexible with work hours and willing to work irregular hours, overtime and rotating shifts (730am to 4pm, 330pm to 12am) when needed
  • Must have a mature and professional appearance & behavior and lead by example at all times

  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program
