Job Description

The Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Advisor strives to ensure Cascade Aerospace is, at a minimum, compliant with current company health, safety and environment policies and procedures, and in conjunction with the Canada Labour Code, prescribed Canadian Occupational Safety & Health Regulations (COSH) and environmental regulations. In addition, the OH&S Advisor recommends procedure revisions to meet the company's safety goals and objectives and regulatory requirements.

 

This position requires immediate Controlled Goods clearance, therefore, only Canadian Residents or Permanent Residents will be considered at this time.

Major Responsibilities & Duties

 

1. Strive to consistently act in a manner in which reflects Cascade Aerospace’s culture and values.

2. Monitor compliance throughout the company with Cascade Aerospace health, safety & environment policies and procedures in conjunction with Canada Labour Code Part II, prescribed COSH and Environmental regulations.

  • Support, advise and act as a resource for all Cascade Aerospace employees regarding safe work practice enquiries
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new and/or different types of safety devices & equipment with a goal of continuously improving Safety metrics
  • Conduct internal safety audits to ensure Cascade Aerospace is compliant with corporate policy and applicable OH&S regulations. Recommend corrective actions required for compliance and continuous improvement
  • Review all first aid occurrences and investigate accordingly
  • Act as safety trainer for specified programs in compliance with corporate policy and procedures

 

3. Ensure OH&S accident and incident investigations are conducted appropriately and thoroughly, as per outlined in policies and procedures.

4. Support monthly joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings.

5. Monitor all hazard observations and maintain records.

6. Assist with Cascade Aerospace's hazardous materials management program to ensure compliance with WHMIS/GHS regulations and internal policies and procedures.

7. Ensure that adequate facilities and equipment are available to meet first aid requirements.

8. Liaise with Human Resources regarding employee injuries and WSBC claims.

9. Assist the OSH Manager in auditing safety practices to ensure regulatory compliance.

10. Perform other duties as required.

Core Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Health & Safety Regulations (COSH)
  • Knowledge in Industrial Hygiene (monitoring/sampling)
  • Thorough knowledge of WSBC regulations, practices and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills - Verbal and written; English is mandatory
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Intermediate computer skills - MS Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be analytical, a problem solver and a team player

Education

 

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalency

  • First Aid - Level 2 certification preferred

Experience

 

  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing and/or aviation environment/industry

  • Working knowledge of disability management practices

  • Working knowledge of audit management

  • Knowledge in Accident/Incident Investigations

  • Experience working within a Transport Canada Approved Safety Management or Department of National Defence Flight Safety System considered an asset
