The Opportunity:

Ducimus is searching for an Associate, Commercial Lending to join our team in Halifax, NS. What You Will Do:

  • Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial Lending, you will work directly with senior team members in serving the private debt space in Ontario and Nova Scotia through marketing initiatives, credit underwriting, administration, borrower relationship management, etc.
  • Maintain turnaround time standards and ensure benchmarks are achieved. Provide superior client service to the referring broker network, while simultaneously recognizing the added inherent risk of the private lending market space.
  • Analyze borrowers’ credit worthiness using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Present credit submissions and recommendations to the Vice President, Commercial Lending.
  • Perform underwriting and credit risk analysis on all credit submissions in a variety of industries.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (borrowers, brokers, lawyers) to ensure a timely and efficient funding process.
  • Oversee file quality control, including those originated by other Associates by carefully examining files to ensure accurate information, completeness, and post-deal funding. Communicate any non-compliant files and deficiencies to both the originating underwriter and the Vice President of Commercial Lending in a timely manner.
  • Conduct annual reviews on assigned accounts that have an original loan term exceeding 1 year in duration.
  • Contact borrowers regarding delinquent payments or out-of-condition accounts. Investigate the cause, propose risk-mitigation steps, and seek approval from the Vice President, Commercial Lending.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial underwriting.
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA designation considered an asset.
  • Willing to obtain Mortgage Broker license.
  • Thorough understanding of commercial credit. Ability to interpret financial information in the context of assessing business credit quality (including review of financial statements, appraisals, bank statements, credit reports, and information obtained from other credible data sources.)
  • Proficient in MS software (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently, high level of initiative and willingness to learn.
