Avionics Technician IA

Position Overview:

An Avionics Technician performs servicing, elementary work, and maintenance tasks on aircraft avionics systems and components in accordance with the approved maintenance program and uses technical data including, but not limited to, technical manuals and drawings. Avionics Technician tasks include removal, disassembly, survey inspection, servicing/disposition/conditioning of removed components and parts, servicing, repair, modification, reassembly, installation, continuity checks, and support to Avionics Systems Technician. 

What You Will Do:

  • Safely operates support equipment and hand/power tools while adhering to Tool and FOD control procedures.
  • Maintains a clean/safe work area utilizing safe work practices and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Reviews and responds to built-in-test (BITE) results, and resolves all defects/unserviceability on avionics systems, including disassembly, replacement, and reassembly; and related systems support such as disturbed systems checks and avionics functional checks. 
  • Conducts support for EMI/EMC tasks.
  • Performs ramp duties including, marshalling, parking, towing, fuelling/defueling, servicing, and post/pre-flight inspections. 
  • Assists Avionics Systems Technicians to perform the required maintenance after flight test.
  • Performs authorized airworthiness functions of Shop Certification Authority (SCA) and Product Conformance Authority (PCA).
  • Travels and works on off-site Mobile Repair Parties/Field Teams and Work Parties. 
  • Provides on-job training (OJT) and technical supervision of other Avionics Technicians. 

What You Will Bring:

  • Must be either a graduate of recognized aircraft maintenance or apprenticeship program, hold a current Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) license, or be qualified as an Avionics Technician as a graduate of an equivalent foreign military and/or civilian basic trade-training program.
  • Transport Canada licensed AME’s (E) or candidates with FAA/JAA equivalent, eligible for Transport Canada license or experience as Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) and experience with major modifications and prototype aircraft ground test plans.
  • Basic to detailed knowledge of aircraft avionics systems including but not limited to communications, navigational, radar, data management, instrument, and electrical power distribution systems.
  • Detailed knowledge in carrying out instructions, accessing and using Wire Information Management System (WIMS) and general wiring practices standards.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting technical documentation:  technical manuals, drawings, and Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Work Orders (WOs), Request for Engineering Services (RES) instructions and associated data.
  • Compliant and skilled level of proficiency for authorization in the performance of maintenance (POM).
  • Must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
