Summary

The Ramp Supervisor/Trainer is both an operational leader and a culture-builder reporting directly to the FBO Base Manager. This role ensures that line service operations—including aircraft refueling, towing, marshalling, and ground handling—are conducted with the highest standards of safety, precision, and professionalism. Beyond day-to-day oversight, the Supervisor/Trainer champions the “Respect the Ramp/Honour the Hangar” initiative, cultivating a team culture focused on safety ownership, continuous improvement, and service excellence.

By mentoring line crew, introducing modern ramp practices, and integrating new technologies, this position drives forward-looking ground operations that align with the company’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

Operational Supervision:

Oversee safe, efficient, and professional ramp activities: fueling, towing, parking, marshalling, lavatory/water servicing, baggage handling, and GSE operations.

Ensure ramp and hangar activities uphold the “Respect the Ramp/Honour the Hangar” culture of care, accountability, and teamwork.

Coordinate closely with customer service, dispatch, and maintenance to ensure seamless service delivery to crews and passengers.

Training & Development:

Support the development and deliver/continuously improve training programs covering aircraft towing, refueling, GSE, SMS principles, and ramp safety.

Use real-world scenarios, incident learnings, and hands-on instruction to embed safety awareness and best practices.

Train staff not only on “how” to perform tasks but on the “why”—building ownership, confidence, and pride in their work.

Mentor line crew and Lead Hands in adopting new ramp technologies (e.g., electric tugs, collision-avoidance systems, digital checklists).

Safety, SMS & Compliance:

Serve as a frontline leader in the Safety Management System (SMS), encouraging proactive reporting, hazard identification, and open communication.

Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and culture-building sessions that reinforce respect for equipment, aircraft, and each other.

Investigate incidents and near-misses constructively, focusing on learning and prevention rather than blame.

Ensure fueling, towing, and ramp activities meet or exceed all regulatory, OEM, and company standards (Transport Canada, IS-BAH, etc.).

Requirements

  • 3–5 years’ experience in FBO or business aviation ground operations, with expertise in fueling, towing, and GSE.
  • Supervisory or lead training experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of SMS principles, ramp safety procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
  • Forward-looking mindset with interest in sustainability, training innovation, and technology adoption.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain airport security clearance (RAIC, DA AVOP, Radio License, etc.).
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
